NEWS UPDATE February 2010:
At the February 8th meeting of the Nassau County Board of Commissioners, Commissioner Boatright responded to a Gleaners Dispatch presentation by founder Dave Fountain by pledging $500 from his discretionary account. The other four Commissioners each pledged $200, equaling a total donation from the Commissioners of $1,300 to help defray the Gleaners costs of distribution. Over 29,000 Nassau County residents benefited from the distribution of free fresh breads, fruits, and vegetables in 2009. Sincere Thanks to the Commissioners for helping us continue to help their Nassau County constituents.
Two of our JOY CLUB Volunteers left this earth and slipped into eternity during the past couple of months. JAMES (“Jim”) LOEHMAN (made and served delicious soup at the Thursday Ramona Distribution Site)and MICHEAL (“Little Mike”) HILGERSON (faithful CDL driver and mechanic) each volunteered with Gleaners Dispatch for many years. Their volunteer work added so much to Gleaners Dispatch, Inc., and the entire Gleaners “family” is thankful the for our memories of these two good men. We will miss them!
Thanks to Robin Burton, our Records Manager, the 2009 Donation Summaries were mailed at the end of January. If you have any questions, corrections, or comments, feel free to discuss them with Robin (904) 777-6344 any Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.
Saturday (2/20/10) there will be an outdoor fish fry for Volunteers and their families from 3:00 to 4:30 pm at Dave & Terry Fountain’s home at 8230 April Street. Beverages, hush puppies, and table service will be furnished, along with the fried fish, which Elmer Piela will be frying. If you’d care to bring a dish to pass or some finger foods – that would be appropriate. Although an RSVP is not required – if you could call and leave word if you think you are coming – that would help us get an idea of how many to prepare for. Plan to come whether you call ahead or not, though – we look forward to seeing you! We LOVE our Volunteers!
Have you joined “The Palladium Club” yet? We are inviting people to agree to automatic recurring monthly donations to underwrite our 2010 monthly budget of $15,000. We know with the economy as it is, a large lump sum donation is difficult, so we are hoping donors will join the Palladium Club and help us by making their annual donation in monthly increments, which will also help us every month to defray our monthly expenses. No more “feast or famine”. We look forward to receiving your sign-up sheet for The Palladium Club.
